Finding You for Jazz Band

Finding You for Jazz Band was commissioned in 2011 by the Richard E. Strayer Middle School Jazz Band, Quakertown, Pennsylvania, Directed by Joseph SantanelloStrayer Saxes playing Finding You

Program Notes:
When Joe Santanello asked me to write a ballad for his young jazz band, he mentioned how they were all big Sinatra fans. I guess it demonstrates how timeless Sinatra’s music is. With “Finding You for Jazz Band,” I wanted to capture the spirit of Sinatra’s band by incorporating a memorable tune, lush chords, and a swingin’ middle section. By featuring the trumpet soloist with a fully orchestrated band, nostalgia will rush over the audience as it hears a tune that could have been written in Frankie’s time.

Praise:

“Finding You for Jazz Band” captures the essence of a traditional big band ballad while still being accessible for today’s young, developing jazz musicians. With “Finding You,” Jon creates a memorable ballad feature that every band director should have in his/her library.
-Jonathan Virtue (lead trumpet player in the Greater-Philadelphia area, former member of the USAF Heritage of America Band)
