“…[A] compelling breadth of movement and stylistic musical diversity.”
-Ronald Sadoff
Who Speaks for Wolf is a 21-minute modern dance produced by conductor and composer Jonathan Manness and choreographer Hee Ra Yoo. The modern dance is based on the Native American Learning Story “Who Speaks for Wolf” by Paula Underwood. Who Speaks for Wolf premiered at New York University’s Tisch Dance Theatre on November 28, 2008. This project was supported in part by a Creative Collaboration Support Grant from the New York University Coordinating Council for Music, and by the Korean Cultural Service NY.
This project is dedicated to Nancy Kennan Dowlin (1954-2007), who first thought of creating a work based on this great story.
“I have wanted to create a work that was healing, inspiring, and empowering about the Earth…It is my intention…to help make clear, a part of the path back to wholeness, harmony, and balance with our planet and with ourselves.” -Nancy Dowlin
